Getting Yourself Out of a Rut

Getting Yourself Out of a Rut

Being a human can be complicated.  There’s a variety of emotions we face on a daily basis.  For some, navigating each day’s emotions can be more difficult than others.  There are times when each and every one of us feel sad.  Whether it be chemical or situational, it’s important to learn ways to pick ourselves up.

One way to get out of an unpleasant mood is to simply get out of your own head.  Sometimes the worst thing for ourselves when we are feeling upset is dwelling on our pain.  Isolation can cause us to overthink things, and fall deeper into our emotions. Getting out of your own way can prevent self-sabotage.  If you are feeling bad about the mundane nature of your life- switch things up!

There are times when we all aren’t feeling particularly confident.  Browsing social media is a common pastime for many, but it isn’t always a positive one.  Do you ever catch yourself unconsciously scrolling through applications, checking on people?  While social media can be a fun way to pass the time, it has many negative effects.

Changing our environments can help to put us in another state of mind.  Put on a kind of music you don’t ordinarily listen to.  Are you used to burning musky scents? Try something sweet for a change, like our Harvest Berry Soy Candle.  Our Strawberry Chiffon Melter is also an excellent choice.  The mouthwatering light strawberry scent mixed with guava is bound to put you on another level.

Thinking about the past may seem like it is counterproductive, but often it is not.  Our past often can provide us with a series of answers.  Think about the issues you have encountered in the past, and how you made it through.  Remember when you thought you’d never make it through the situation you were in?  Give yourself some grace.

At Meredith Bay we think that self-care can be a great way to lift your spirits.  Make sure to give yourself a break when you feel overwhelmed, and don’t be too critical of yourself.
